<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical communication network which allows easy and low-cost implementation of a monitoring and control system not depending on a form of main signal light. <P>SOLUTION: On the transmission side of monitoring and control information, a driving signal controlled on the basis of monitoring and control information is given to a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) for amplifying main signal light, so that the intensity of total power of output light from the SOA is modulated. The output light of the SOA is photoelectrically converted on the reception side, and the monitoring and control information is discriminated on the basis of an intensity modulated component of total power of a resultant electric signal. Since ASE light generated in the SOA is used to transmit the monitoring and control information, the monitoring and control information can be discriminated on the reception side even when an optical burst signal is input to the SOA. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
