The method involves changing a mode into monitoring state during decrease of predetermined finite speed, where speed of a motor vehicle is defined automatically in the mode. Occurrence of a kind of predetermined event such as opening of a vehicle door or loosening of a belt of a passenger, is tested in the monitoring state, and a safe stop of the motor vehicle is caused during occurrence of the event. The mode is terminated such that the safe stop exists steadily, where the pre-determined finite speed lies between 0.8 and 1.5 kilometer per hour.
