In a pneumatic tyre outer casing having a radial cord type carcass and a circumferentially inextensible breaker, the cords of the carcass plies and the breaker layers are covered with rubber having after vulcanization a Shore A hardness of above 75 and modulus of elasticity of at least 100 kg./cm.<SP>2</SP> at 200% elongation, and the axial width of the breaker is at least 10% greater than that of the area of contact of the tread with the ground under normal load and inflation pressure. The rubber coating may comprise 65 parts carbon black per 100 parts of elastomer. The cords may be the conventional type of textile or metal, or may comprise textile or metal monofilaments.</p> |
