Preparing palladium (Pd)/platinum (Pt) catalyst comprises (a) impregnating a zeolite material with platinum sulfite acid, (b) impregnating the zeolite obtained in step (a) with a basic palladium source, and (c) calcining the impregnated zeolite under a protective gas. Independent claims are included for: (1) the Pd/Pt catalyst comprising at least 1 wt.% of Pd and Pt in the pores of a zeolite material; (2) a diesel oxidation catalyst for treating exhaust gas of diesel combustion engines, comprising the Pd/Pt catalyst; and (3) a method for treating exhaust gas from diesel combustion engines comprising oxidation of carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon and reduction of nitrogen oxides (NO x) in the diesel oxidation catalyst, where the exhaust gas stream is directed through diesel oxidation catalyst.
