PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus using a new cleaning technology, capable of increasing choices of cleaning (removing) techniques for toner incorporated inside a brush member. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a brush member that abuts against the surface of an object to be cleaned, while rotating; a flicker member against which the brush member abuts after abutting against the object to be cleaned; an environment detecting means that detects humidity in the space around the brush member; a humidifying means for humidifying the air around the brush member; and a control means for making the humidifying means operate, when the environment detecting means detected that absolute humidity in the space around the brush member is less than a predetermined threshold.
