The device (10) has a melting unit (22) with a heatable melting chamber for melting an adhesive, and a conveying device for conveying the molten adhesive to an adhesive application unit (18) e.g. application roller or application nozzle. A valve unit has a pair of inlets attached with another melting unit and the former melting unit, respectively. The inlets stay in flow connection with an outlet of the valve unit. The flow connection between one of the inlets and another outlet is selectively disconnectable or releasable by a closure element.
