PURPOSE: A composition containing rhapontigenin compounds is provided to induce specific apoptosis of breast cancer cell line and to prevent or treat breast cancer. CONSTITUTION: A composition for preventing or treating breast cancer contains rhapontigenin compounds(3,3',5-trihydroxy-4'-methoxystilbene), pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, additive, vehicle, autophagy inhibitor, and ERK pathway inhibitor. The compound is isolated from Rheum. The compound contains an analogue or homologue of rhapontigenin compounds.
