<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable automatic start of its use and device formation of a modular sheet-fed rotary printing press. <P>SOLUTION: The printing press 1 is constructed with the modular formation which consists of three printing units 2. Each printing unit 2 has; a connection section 8 and a transceiver unit 16 which serve as the interfaces for carrying out control communication, a memory unit 11 which contains the properties of the module and which can be read and written, and a bus supply system 9 and transceiver unit 16 which are the communications device operatively connected to the memory unit 11 and is also used for communication with other modules and/or a higher-order control system of the machine.
