A stereoscopic image display device comprises: liquid crystal (LCD) panel PNL (Figure 1) alternately displaying first and second images, being changed at first transition durations every frame; a polarization control panel (ARP) disposed on the liquid crystal panel and changing polarization states at second transition durations; polarization glasses (GLS) enabling the displayed images to be viewed via the polarization control panel; and backlight unit BLU providing light having black durations (black, off periods) where the light is not provided to the LCD panel. Black, light off durations may correspond to the polarization and/or display panel switching change durations, so crosstalk (light leakage) is minimized during on/off change periods. Illumination black blank periods may correspond to middle polarization durations (between right and left eye polarizations), and black durations may move along LCD scan directions. A backlight with plural light sources may be used. |
