PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display is provided to enable a display which used a light emitted from a backlight and a display which used an external light without distinguishing a display pixel into a transparent area and a reflective area. CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal display device(1) includes a liquid crystal panel(10), a first λ/4 board(16), a second λ/4 board(18), and a reflective layer. The liquid crystal panel is arranged to make a right angle with a transparent axis of each other or interposing a first and second substrate between the first polarization and second polarization. The first λ/4 board is arranged to make a angle of 45 about a transmission axis of the first polarization plate. The second λ/4 board is arranged to make a right angle about of ground axis of the first λ/4 board.
