[Also in Divisions D1 and F2] A method of connecting longitudinal and transverse bars 1, 2 at the junction points thereof consists in applying bands 3, 4 of plastic material to each bar and urging the bars together so that each band on a longitudinal bar engages the adjacent band on a transverse bar and continues therewith to form an integral annular support at a junction point of the bars. The bars may be brought into contact with each other by means of guide-belts (Fig. 1, not shown). Alternatively to the bands a drop of plastic may be placed on each of the bars before they are brought together. As shown in Fig. 2 a bar, preheated inductively at 7 has plastic injected on to it in a split mould 10 and whilst still soft is brought into contact with a still soft plastic band on a bar at right angles to it. Alternatively ultrasonic or high frequency heating can be used. In another method (Fig. 3, not shown), the bars acquire the bands by being passed axially through the moulding head of an injection machine.</p> |
