PURPOSE: A liquid crystal compound is provided to achieve a liquid crystal medium having suitable nematic image range and high Δn using the liquid crystal compound including 5 or more linearly arranged benzene rings and two crosslinking units among the rings. CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal compound is represented by chemical formula 1. In chemical formula 1, B1 represents -CF2O-, -CH2O-, -CH2CH2-, -CF2CF2-, -CH2CF2-, -CH=CH-, -CF=CF-, -CF=CH-, -C≡C- or -(CO)O-; B2 represents -CF2O-; Z represents F, Cl, SCN, NCS, CN, OCN, NCO, trifluoromethyl or trifluoromethoxy; X1-4 are independently H, F, Cl or T; L1-6 are independently H or T; T represents alkyl, alkoxy, alkenyl, alkenyloxy or alkynyl having C6 or less; R represents F, Cl, Br, CN, CF3, OCF3, SCN, NCS or SF5, or C1-15 unsubstituted alkyl radical; m is 2, 3 or 4; and n and o are independently 0, 1 or 2. |
