PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power supply device that minimizes internal loss of a switching regulator when power efficiency varies due to variability in output load and manufacturing of the switching regulators. SOLUTION: The power supply device includes: a switching regulator that converts an input voltage into an output voltage corresponding to a load so as to output the output voltage and to supply power to the load, an input voltage monitoring means for monitoring the input voltage supplied to the switching regulator, an input current monitoring means for monitoring an input current supplied to the switching regulator, an input-power calculation means for calculating input power supplied to the switching regulator on the basis of the input voltage and the input current, a power determining means for determining whether the input power calculated after outputting the output voltage exceeds a predetermined target power consumption or not, and an operation-mode control means for shifting the operation mode of the switching regulator to another operation mode to reduce the input power when determined that the input power exceeds the predetermined target power consumption.
