A method for diagnosing gastroesophageal reflux disease comprises interview with the patient. When the patient complains of the heartburn, anxiolytic Strezam is provided at a dose of 50 mg twice a day for 7 days. Upon elimination of the heartburn, the diagnosis "functional heartburn" is verified. When the complaints persist, the gastroesophageal reflux disease is diagnosed for the adequate treatment.
