[Also in Division F2] A method of improving the soundness of a concrete duct consists in introducing into it through a permanent inspection hole a pastelike concrete bonding material to one side of a single piston 24 surrounded by at least one resilient ring and drawing the piston through the duct by traction means 11, 12 thereby forcing the material into faults in the wall or joints 3 of the duct. The piston is introduced into the duct through the same or a different permanent inspection hole. A clearance may be allowed all round the circumference of the ring or rings 7, 8 so that a lining of the bonding material is deposited inside the pipe. In the construction shown the piston is of metal or wood and is fitted with rings 9, 10 for the attachment of the traction cables. An embodiment in Figures 5 and 6 (not shown) illustrates a single disc piston from which a segment is removed at the bottom so that as it passes through the duct it leaves behind a reinforcing layer of the bonding material along the bottom of the pipe. Side branch pipes may be stopped off from the main duct by inflated members on the end of rods or tubes.</p> |
