摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance transmittance of a liquid crystal display device of a VA mode having a four-domain alignment structure. SOLUTION: A pixel of the liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal layer 30 including a nematic liquid crystal material having negative dielectric anisotropy, a first electrode 20A1, a second electrode 20A2 and a pair of vertical alignment layers 21A1 and 21A2. The first electrode 20A1 has a main part 10t1 and a plurality of branched parts 10b1 extended in parallel from the main part 10t1. The plurality of branched parts 10b1 includes four groups extended to four different azimuths, and the difference between optional two azimuths in the four azimuths is nearly equal to an integer multiple of 90°and forms an angle of nearly 45°with polarizing axes of two polarizing plates. When no voltage is applied to the liquid crystal layer, alignment of the liquid crystal molecules in the vicinity of the vertical alignment layers is regulated by the vertical alignment layers.
