PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily manufacture a liquid crystal display device capable of vertically aligning a liquid crystal without performing rubbing treatment, at a low cost. SOLUTION: A projecting part is formed on the surface of an alignment layer by performing application treatment and solidification treatment of a polyimide based liquid composition being a vertical alignment layer material twice or more to at least one substrate. More specifically, the projecting part is formed on the surface of the alignment layer by using the liquid composition which is the same in each application treatment or using the liquid composition whose component is adjusted, as the vertical alignment layer material, and dropping and applying the liquid composition being the vertical alignment layer material on a portion of a region in contact with the liquid crystal on the substrate in at least one application treatment.
