PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of easily producing motion image data including motion images having impressive video effects. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus includes: an imaging element 6 for capturing an image of light from a subject; a size information detecting section 26 for detecting information about the relative size of the subject in a photographic screen with respect to the photographic screen from start of photographing of a motion image formed of a plurality of frame images based on an imaging signal from the imaging element until finish of the photographing of the motion image; a switching section 4 for switching a record frame rate indicating the number of frame images recorded in a unit time from a first record frame rate into a second record frame rate different from the first record frame rate on the basis of the information about the size of the subject image with respect to the photographic screen detected by the size information detecting section; and a motion image data producing section 4 for producing motion image data on the basis of the plurality of frame images recorded from the start of photographing of the motion image until the finish of the recording of the motion image with intervention of switching by the switching section.
