PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an examination device and method, capable of efficiently performing examination even in the examination of a specimen wherein whole blood and serum/blood plasma are mixed. SOLUTION: A solid phase extraction cartridge 102 or a filter 117 is installed on the endless track of a cartridge table 101. A cup table 103 is positioned under the cartridge table 101, and a cup 104 is installed on the endless track to receive the sample purified by the filter 117. The endless track of the cartridge table 101 and the endless track of the cup table 103 mutually cross at two points, that is, a position (m) and the operation position of a sample probe 107 as viewed from above. The pretreatment of the serum/blood plasma is completed during one round of the cartridge table 101 and the pretreatment of the whole blood is completed during two rounds of the cartridge table 101.
