Apparatus for forming wire 51 into a zig-zag or corrugated shape which can form the web of a lightweight truss comprises two co-planar closed tracks 5, 7 one of said tracks 5 being fixed and the other 7 being adjustable with respect to the fixed track 5 for the formation of different sizes of web, a set of endlessly connected links 13 riding on each track, a wireengaging tongue 22 mounted on each link 13 perpendicular thereto and longitudinally slidable with respect to the link, the effective length of said tongues being adjustable for each adjusted position of the said tracks 5, 7 relative to each other, means 19 to turn the links around the tracks in unison, the facing sides of said tracks defining a central zone wherein the tongues 22 are advanced with the tongues of one set alternating with the tongues of the other set, a cam 10, 101 on each of the tracks 5, 7, a cam follower on each tongue, the cams having their sides 11, 111 adjacent the said central zone straight and parallel with the facing sides of the tracks. The length of the tongues 22 is adjustable, when the track 7 is adjusted, by the insertion of a suitable collar 27, Fig. 6, between the body of the tongue and a head 29 carrying a pin 30 which engages the wire 51. Anvil members 34 on the links 13 at each side of the tongues 22 also engage the wire to straighten the diagonals. The cams 10, 101 have replaceable sections 12, 121 at the entrance to the said central zone.
