PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new dehydrohalogenation coupling reaction of an aromatic compound with a halogenated unsaturated compound. SOLUTION: The method for producing the coupling compound includes reacting an aromatic compound with a halogenated unsaturated compound (for example, a halogenated aromatic compound) having a halogen atom on a carbon atom constituting a carbon-carbon double bond in the presence of a base (for example, an alkoxide) and a nitrogen-containing organic compound (for example, an aliphatic secondary polyamine, an aliphatic tertiary polyamine, an aromatic tertiary polyamine, or a polyimine). By the reaction, with the hydrogen atom bound to the aromatic ring of the aromatic compound and the halogen atom of the unsaturated compound, the coupling compound that has been dehydrohalogenated can be obtained.
