PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pinball game machine which does not betray expectations of a player after a jackpot game. SOLUTION: Normally win/lose determination is conducted by first special symbols which are disadvantageous to the player by a game ball entering a first start pocket, however after the jackpot, a time-shortened mode occurs, the game ball enters a second start pocket, and the win/lose determination is conducted by second special symbols which are advantageous to the player, so that the player can advantageously proceed with the game thereafter. However, because predetermined conditions must be satisfied for opening the second start pocket, the second start pocket does not always open immediately after the jackpot is completed. Meanwhile, since the time-shortened mode occurs after the jackpot, there is a possibility of the disadvantageous win/lose determinations being conducted one after the other by the first special symbols during that time. Thus, the time-shortened mode is restrained for at least an initial variation display after the jackpot.
