PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form an image of transparent toner on a color image output from an image forming apparatus that has transparent toner, and also to output an image of transparent toner onto an output from an image forming apparatus that has no transparent toner. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a means for forming a toner image on a recording material by using toner containing a releasing agent; a fixing means for fixing the toner image; and a fixing member, an oil application means, and a means for adjusting an amount of oil to be applied, all of which are provided for the fixing means. The image forming apparatus includes: an entire surface mode in which a toner image is formed so as to substantially uniformly coat, with toner, the surface of a recording material in a predetermined area corresponding to the size of the recording material; and a partial mode in which a toner image is formed in the predetermined area. In the entire surface mode, an amount of oil to be applied is decreased, compared to that in the partial mode. Alternatively, oil is not applied in the entire surface mode.
