PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information processing apparatus and method, capable of switching a content being reproduced at timing good to be paused in terms of a story of the reproduction content, when a buffer volume is insufficient in streaming reproduction. SOLUTION: The information processing apparatus 100 includes: a communication unit 102 communicating with a distribution server 200 that contains content data for streaming delivery; a buffer unit 108 which temporarily stores stream data obtained from the distribution server; a memory 110 which stores an inserting content, a reproduction unit 112 which reproduces the content; and a control unit 106 which measures a bandwidth of a network, determines whether it is possible to reproduce until the end of a next chapter defined by a chapter point set in the content on the basis of a buffer volume of the buffer unit and the bandwidth, and when determined it is impossible, switches the content to be produced by the reproduction unit to the inserting content.
