<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a linear actuator which is highly silent and can linearly move a shaft member in an axial line direction with a high thrust force. <P>SOLUTION: In the linear actuator, driving members 5c, 5d, 5e, 5f displace a pressing member 3 sequentially along the outer circumference of the shaft member so that a protrusion strip portion 32 of the pressing member 3 can sequentially press a screw portion 21 along the outer circumference radially. Thus, the shaft member is rotated and moved in the axial line direction. The thrust force of the shaft member at this time is proportional to a pressing force of the pressing member applied to the shaft member, i.e., a drive force of the driving member applied to the pressing member.
