PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stainless steel for a heat exchanger of a Stirling engine, and to provide its structure. SOLUTION: The heat exchanger of the Stirling engine is composed of: a ferritic stainless steel having a composition containing, by mass,≤0.08% C, 0.2 to 3.0% Si,≤2.0% Mn, 12.0 to 20.0% Cr,≤0.8% Nb and≤0.04% N, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities, and further containing one or two kinds selected from Mo, Cu and W by 0.05 to 4.0% in total; and an austenitic stainless steel having a composition containing, by mass,≤0.08% C, 2.0 to 4.0% Si,≤2.0% Mn, 8.0 to 16.0% Ni, 16.0 to 20.0% Cr,≤0.04% N and≤0.8% Nb, and further containing one or two kinds selected from Mo, Cu and W by 0.50 to 4.0% in total; wherein these stainless steels are joined by brazing.
