PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which attains compatibility between prevention of an external additive of toner from being adhered to a photoreceptor due to a blade edge and prevention of the toner around the blade edge from excessive charging. SOLUTION: After image formation is ended, whether an absolute humidity H is equal to a predetermined value (15 g/m<SP>3</SP>) or more is determined. When the absolute humidity H is equal to or higher than 15 g/m<SP>3</SP>, a drum motor 42 is reversely rotated to reversely rotate photoreceptor drums 1a to 1d in a predetermined amount to transfer a residue remaining on an edge part 31a of a cleaning blade 31 from the edge part 31a. When the absolute humidity H is lower than 15 g/m<SP>3</SP>in the step S2, the process is ended without carrying out reverse rotation of the photoreceptor drums 1a to 1d.
