1,182,977. Centrifugal separator. WESTFALIA SEPARATOR A.G. 13 July, 1967 [15 July, 1966], No. 32314/67. Heading B2P. In a centrifuge for separating water and solids from oil, e.g. insulating oil, the separated oil is discharged under pressure from the centrifuge drum 1 by means of a skimmer 8 into a collecting chamber 12 which is sealed from a collecting chamber 5 for the separated water and solids and from a supply chamber 15 for the mixture to be separated. Separation takes place at a temperature of approximately 80‹C. The water and solids are periodically discharged from the sludge chamber 2 into the chamber 5 through valve-controlled openings 4. The oil passes inwardly of separating plates 3 and overflows via channels 6 into a skimming chamber 7 and thence through the skimmer 8, a channel 9, an annular chamber 10 and bores 11 into the chamber 12 in the form of a spray so that any water still retained in the oil is evaporated due to the release of pressure and may be discharged through the top part of a pipe 16 not filled completely with oil and leading to a container for the purified oil from which the vapourized water escapes. The chamber 12 may be connected to atmosphere through one or more passages 17 for the discharge of vapourized water. The chamber may also be connected via a fitting 18 to a vacuum pump in order to increase the evaporation effect. |
