1,114,744. Sleeve connector. WESTERN ELECTRIC CO. Inc. 20 July, 1965 [24 July, 1964], No. 30743/65. Heading H2E. [Also in Division B3] Wires 16, 18 are inserted into a hard metal sleeve 12, with elongate transverse perforations 20 and integral spikes 22, surrounded by a soft metal cover 14 and an insulating jacket 10, then the connector is crushed and the spikes pierce the insulation on the wires and establish electrical contact with and between them by engaging their cores. The spikes 22 on one side of a perforation 20 face spaces between spikes on the other, Fig. 2 (not shown), ensuring that a wire cannot escape being pierced. A tool for forming the perforations and spikes is described. In an alternative form, the cover 14 and liner 12 may be flat and open, and receive sheet conductors. |
