<p>1,239,257. Refuse incinerators. VON ROLL A.G. 10 Oct., 1968 [26 April, 1968], No. 48168/68. Heading F4B. A furnace for simultaneously incinerating refuse and sewage sludge comprises a refuse combustion chamber 8 containing inclined mechanical predrying and combustion grates 2, 3 on which refuse is consumed, and a sewage sludge combustion chamber 9 provided with similar grates 6, 7 for burning out the sludge. The refuse from hopper 20 is dried, ignited and burnt out on the various zones of grates 2 and 3 by a hot or cold undergrate air and/or combustion products blast from duct 13 and chambers 11-11<SP>111</SP>, the incombustible residue falling on to conveyer 14 for discharge. Sewage sludge cakes from receiver 17 are charged on to predrying grate 6 past feed thickness control damper 16, and an air undergrate blast and/or a blast of combustion products from refuse combustion chamber 8 is supplied via chamber 18, to drive off vapour, which with the cooled air and/or combustion gases passes out into predrying chamber 10 via path D. The predried sludge is then ignited and burnt on grate 7 by an air and/or combustion products underblast from chamber 19, the residue from grate 7 falling on to grate 3 in combustion chamber 8 to ensure its complete combustion, before discharge by conveyer 14. Combustion gases from chamber 8 sweep over grate 7 and mingle with the combustion gases therefrom, the mixture then being drawn out through flue 15 at a temperature between 900-1000‹ C. Vapours from predrying chamber 10 pass into flue 15 through a passage 10a.</p> |
