Disclosed is a modified-release dietary supplement comprising: a) one or more long-chain polysaccharides such as those isolated from starch, cellulose, corn syrup, pectin, acacia, gum arabic, alginic acid, carrageenan, dextran, xanthan gum, b) an antioxidant comprising an isolated and purified lipophobic oxygen-radical quencher (such as alpha, beta, delta, epsilon, gamma, zeta, and sigma tocopherols, and alpha, beta, delta and gamma tocotrienols, pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, and combinations thereof) and c) an isolated and purified lipophilic oxygen-radical quencher (such as those selected from the group consisting of flavonols, quercetin, kaempferol, myricetin, apigenin, pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, and combinations thereof); characterised in that the lipophobic and the lipophilic oxygen-radical quenchers combined have an oxygen-radical quencher value of greater than 6,000 ìMol Trolox Equivalents (TE)/gram, wherein the lipophobic and lipophilic antioxidants are provided in a ratio of between 10:90 to 90:10, wherein the supplement is compressed at a pressure greater than 100 psi, and further characterised in that 85% of the nutritional supplements are released from 1 to 8 hours. |
