Disclosed is the use of monoclonal antibody encoded by a clone deposited with the ATCC as accession no PTA-5643 for detecting expression of MCSP (melanoma-associated chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan) by a cell in a cell sample by determining binding of said monoclonal antibody with said cell sample. Also disclosed is an assay to determine the expression of MCSP by human cells.
