<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tape-like recording medium by which a tape such as a label tape having a birefringence pattern can easily be manufactured, to provide a tape having the birefringence pattern which is made from the tape-like recording medium, and to provide a tape writing apparatus by which the tape having the birefringence pattern can be easily manufactured. <P>SOLUTION: The tape-like recording medium includes an optical anisotropy layer of which the phase difference changes by heat. A tape is formed from the tape-like recording medium, and includes a patterning optical anisotropy layer having two or more regions of different birefringences in the shape of a pattern, alternatively, or a printing having the patterning optical anisotropy layer having two or more regions of different birefringences in the shape of the pattern and a layer having a boundary line which is the same as the boundary line of the regions. The tape writing apparatus includes: a tape-like recording medium feeding section: a driving section for letting out the tape-like recording medium from the feeding section; and a thermal head section which applies heat to part of the tape-like recording medium which has been let out.
