The device (10) has a locking jaw clutch (70) sliding relative to a sleeve (30) along a rotational axis of the sleeve so as to be placed in neutral and locking positions. The locking jaw clutch rotates with the sleeve relative to jaw clutches (20) of an idle pinion (14) in the neutral position when the sleeve is placed in decoupled or coupled position. The locking clutch is axially displaced while the sleeve is placed in the coupled position and occupies a part of clearance between the clutches of the pinion to transmit clearance free torque between the clutches of the pinion. An independent claim is also included for a manual controlled gearbox comprising a primary shaft.
