PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus and image forming apparatus in which warping of a light guide during image reading can be suppressed. SOLUTION: The image reading apparatus 1 includes: an LED 141 which emits light for irradiating a document 9; a light guide 5, in which a center portion in a length direction has a bar-like shape curved in a first direction toward the LED 141 rather than both terminal portions and in a second direction crossing the first direction, having an incident plane 50a to which light from the LED 141 is incident, and first and second emission planes 50b and 50c for guiding the light incident to the incident plane 50a to a direction irradiating the document 9 and emitting the light; a substrate 140, a first carriage 14 and a holding member 144 which support the light guide 5 while deforming it so as to reduce curves toward the first and second directions; and an image reading section 16 for reading an image of the document 9 with reflection light obtained by reflecting on the document 9 the light emitted from the first and second emission planes 50b and 50c of the light guide 5.
