PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus, image processing method and program for reducing the time required for adjusting a designated color when a color outside of a gamut or a color in the vicinity of a boundary within the gamut is designated. SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus having a color chart condition setting unit 84 for setting colorimetric values (L<SP>*</SP><SB>0</SB>, a<SP>*</SP><SB>0</SB>, b<SP>*</SP><SB>0</SB>) of a designated color as a reference color. An image data generator 62 generates image data constituted of pixel values calculated such that a plurality of color patches 36 are arranged in a two-dimensional pattern on a medium 32 around the reference color (L<SP>*</SP><SB>0</SB>, a<SP>*</SP><SB>0</SB>, b<SP>*</SP><SB>0</SB>) set by the color chart condition setting unit 84, and color differences in a uniform color space between adjacent color patches 36 are represented by a substantially equal interval (ΔL<SP>*</SP>,Δa<SP>*</SP>,Δb<SP>*</SP>) along the same row or column.
