PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum cleaner which surely removes dust stuck in a filter by taking in an outside air flow momentarily. SOLUTION: In the state of performing suction by an electric blower 2, a second opening/closing means 25 and a first opening/closing means 21 are both closed, a pressure inside a dust collecting case 3 is turned to a negative pressure state lower than the atmospheric pressure further, then the first opening/closing means 21 is opened and closed at least once, and in a route of making the outside air flow generated by a pressure difference between the pressure inside the dust collecting case 3 and the atmospheric pressure flow from a ventilation path 36 through an opening 20 into the dust collecting case 3, the air flow is rectified. Thus, the dust stuck to the filter 13 or a coarse dust filter 11 is removed. The vacuum cleaner whose suction force is not easily lowered even when a large amount of the dust is sucked, and which maintains high suction power for a long period of time and does not need maintenance for a long period of time further, is provided.
