The method involves unwinding a film web (7) from a roller (6), where the film web is conveyed by a supply roller pair (3) of a cutting device (4). A controlled slack (15) of the film web is generated before the supply roller pair, and the unwinding of the film web from the roller is regulated such that the slack is greater than a preset minimum slack and less than a preset maximum slack.
