The invention comprises divinyl carbonates of general formula wherein R 1 , R 2 and R 3 , which may be the same or different, are hydrogen, alkyl containing up to 20 carbon atoms or aryl, specifically divinyl carbonate and diisopropenyl carbonate, and which are prepared by the reaction of a mercury (II) aldehyde or ketone or a chloromercury (11) aldehyde or ketone with phosgene, in the presence of a tertiary amine as catalyst and in an inert solvent or diluent. Aliphatic ethers or aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbons are the preferred solvents and aliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic amines may be the catalysts. |
