The bow has a stick (100) with a head (200) at one end and a tensioner (300) for the strings (400) at the other. The stick is made by winding a layer of a resin-impregnated unidirectional filament material round a tapering mandrel, bending the mandrel to give it the required shape of the stick, polymerising the resin by heating the winding on the mandrel, and withdrawing the mandrel once the wound material has cooled to make a tapering hollow core. The narrow end of the core is inserted into a mould with the imprint of the bow head before injecting a mouldable material. The other end of the core is fitted with a socket and screw mechanism for the sliding tensioner, and both the head and socket can be made from a two component cold-polymerising resin. The finished bow is given a coating of polyurethane varnish.
