A weight transfer hitch H comprises a frame 40 having a rearwardly extending bearing portion 46 the vertical bore of which receives a journalled shaft 48. Two longitudinal members one of which can be extended and contracted are fixed to brackets 50 and 56 by horizontal pivot pins 54, 58. The extensible member comprises a piston and cylinder arrangement 60 subject to pressure control and the other ends of the members are pivotally connected at pivot 62. A weight transfer element W including a pair of generally triangular plates 70 joined by spacer members 72 and 73 is pivoted centrally on a pin 68 about a longitudinal axis adjacent the pivot 62. Two chains 76 hooked one on each of the members 72 are connected to a cross piece 80 extending below the tongue 32 of the implement, and pass one on either side of the power take off connection 34. If there is no power take off connection the weight transfer element W may be rotated 180‹ about the pin 68 and a single chain, fixed to the spacer 73, may be used centrally. An overload release mechanism comprises a breakable pin which extends through the pivot pin 68 holding the element W in place. Any undue axial force causes the pin to break and the load transfer mechanism to become detached. The vertical pivot pin 48 of the swing- ing boom is very near to the axis of the coupling pin 30 connecting the implement tongue to the tractor so that the chains 76 remain substantially vertical on turning of the tractor. A valve V of the pressure control hydraulic circuit may be connected to the frame 40 and be operated by a cam surface (150) Fig. 7 (not shown) on the boom to reduce pressure in the cylinder 60 when the tractor turns, so that manoeuvering is facilitated. The hitch H may be connected to a tractor with power lift mechanism the hydraulic cylinders of which may be operated in parallel with the cylinder 60 of the hitch H via a suitable linkage Fig. 9 (not shown) which may in turn be fixed to a three point linkage on the tractor.</p> |
