It is an object to prevent deterioration of reflectance of a reflection layer (2; 43) composed of silver or a silver alloy, resulting from heat-caused migration of silver. The reflector (6; 13, 14; 16) for projection type display apparatuses which display image light beams emitted and reflected by a light source (8; 15; 45; 49), modulated for light intensity by a display device (21, 22, 23) and magnified by a projection lens (37), wherein the reflector (6; 13, 14; 16) is provided, on the reflection surface side, with a reflection layer (2; 43) composed at least of silver or a silver alloy, and a layer comprising inorganic particles and a binder composed of a silicon compound; and a light source (8; 15; 45; 49) and image display device (21, 22, 23) which use the reflector (6; 13, 14; 16). |
