PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of keeping constant a lubricant grinding amount to an image carrier by a brush member and a surface friction coefficient of the image carrier without needing complicated control. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus comprises: an electrifying device for electrifying an image carrier: a developing device for making an electrostatic latent image visible as a toner image; a transfer device for transferring the toner image to a transfer material; a cleaning device for removing an unnecessary toner adhering to the surface of the image carrier; a lubricant application device made up of a solid form lubricant, a brush member for grinding and applying the solid form lubricant to the image carrier, and a removal member for removing adhering matter from the bush member. The image forming apparatus further comprises a toner control member, which is a rotating brush body, for uniforming the residual toner on the image carrier upstream of the lubricant application device in the image carrier rotation direction.
