PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a means for detecting both the presence or absence of recording paper on a conveyance passage, and the presence or absence of a guide member in a device body by using a single optical sensor. SOLUTION: A slider 92 is disposed on a paper discharge tray attachable to and detachable from a casing. The slider 92 is urged by a spring 94 in the paper discharge tray. A rotor 52 and a rotation arm 55 and a stylus 57 are fixed to a rotary shaft 53 in the casing 92. According to the rotation posture of the rotary shaft 53, the stylus 57 advances to and retracts from a phototransistor 51. The rotor 52 includes a rotation arm 52A intersecting with a paper discharge passage, and a rotation arm 52B intersecting with an inclined passage. The rotation arm 55 intersects with the range of the movement of the slider 92. The rotation arm 55 is rotated upon the attachment of the paper discharge tray, and the attachment is optically detected. When the recording paper is conveyed along the paper discharge passage or the inclined passage, the presence or absence of the recording paper is optically detected by the rotation of the rotation arm 52A or 52B.
