PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a washing machine to have only one motor with a pulley for varying a reduction ratio and also to minimize losses of a belt and the motor. SOLUTION: The washing machine includes a change-over means 109 for changing the reduction ratio transmitting rotative power of the motor 26 and a washing/spinning tub 22, a first rotation sensing means 103 for sensing a revolution frequency of the motor 26, a second rotation sensing means 102 for sensing a revolution frequency of the tub 22, an input sensing means 104 for sensing an input power of the motor 26, a drive means 300 for driving the motor 26 and a control means 101 for controlling the change-over means 109. The control means 101 controls the change-over means 109 and the drive means 300 so as to have the reduction ratio and the revolution frequency of the motor 26 to minimize the power of the motor 26.
