PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power saving method in a communication network by reducing a buffer capacity required for evading the abandonment of communication data through a communication node during sleep and by using a simple buffer management method. SOLUTION: In the power saving method, a plurality of second communication nodes are connected through a communication path to a first communication node, and the first communication node is connected to a third communication node. The second communication node is operated in a sleep mode for the specified sleep time and operated in a normal mode after the lapse of the sleep time. The first communication node sets the sleep time for each second communication node, transmits a sleep message to the second communication node, and notifies the third communication node about an identifier indicating the second communication node and the set sleep time. The third communication node identifies the second communication node that communication data pass through, and reads the communication data only from a buffer storing the communication data that pass through the second communication node operated in the normal mode.
