PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a main shaft brake of a passenger conveyor with less deceleration. SOLUTION: The main shaft brake of the passenger conveyor has first and second braking devices which are held by a main shaft with the friction to respectively generate the braking torque of 1/2 of the quantity necessary for braking a passenger conveyor, and when a drive chain is broken, the second braking device is operated after the braking for the predetermined time by the first braking device. The time delay is imparted by the combination of two ratchet wheels with their phase being deviated from claws, and the combination of the claw, the ratchet wheel and a cam mechanism to be driven by the ratchet wheel with each other.
