<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To supply plane light to two main and sub liquid crystal display screens with one backlight by emitting bright and homogeneous light from both of a surface part and a rear face part of a light guide plate. <P>SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display device 1 is provided with a light source 11, a plane illumination device and two liquid crystal display parts. The plane illumination device has an incident part 10 for guiding light from the light source 11, and a surface part 8 and a rear face part 9 which intersect with the incident part 10 at approximately right angles, where light is emitted to both the faces of the light guide plate 7 by means of the light guide plate 7 for guiding light from the incident part 10, totally reflecting light existing in the inside to a mutually opposed face direction by light deflecting elements 71 formed on the surface part 8 and the rear face part 9 and by means of a prism sheet 12 whose vertex is turned to the light guide plate 7 so that light outgoing from the light guide plate 7 is deflected and emitted approximately vertically. The light outgoing from both the faces of the light guide plate 7 is led into two liquid crystal panels or liquid crystal cells and characters and images are displayed on the two liquid crystal panels or liquid crystal cells. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
