PURPOSE: A method for driving a strip surface detector is provided to stably inspect surface defects of a strip in a hot rolling process by determining the entry of the strip based on the measured width and temperature of the strip. CONSTITUTION: A method for driving a strip surface detector is as follows. The width and temperature of a strip are detected and the entry of the strip is determined(S1,S2), wherein it is determined when a strip width or a strip temperature is over a reference width or a reference temperature. A strip surface detector is driven when the entry of the strip is determined(S3,S4).
