PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To further improve the oil separation performance of an oil separator. SOLUTION: A base 10 is provided which includes a lead-in passage 12 for leading in an oil-containing gas, a lead-out passage 13 for leading out treated gas and an oil discharge passage 14 for discharging separated cooled oil, and a cover 20 is mounted on the base 10 to form an oil separation chamber 21. A ring-shaped filter element 30 and a lead-out pipe 40 whose upper end opens in the filter element 30 are disposed in the oil separation chamber 21. The lead-in passage 12 communicates with the oil separation chamber 21 between the cover 20 and the filter element 30, the lead-out passage 13 communicates with the lower end of the lead-out pipe 40, and the oil discharge passage 14 communicates with an oil discharge port 16 which opens in a space inside the filter element 30. A step portion comprising a small-diameter portion 42 and a large-diameter portion 43 formed on the outer periphery in the axial cross section of the lead-out pipe 40 is formed on the outer peripheral part of the lead-out pipe 40 located at a position higher than a position at which the oil discharge port 16 is formed.
